PAST uses of a simple spreadsheet data entry form. Data from Excel and other spreadsheet-type programs can be directly pasted into PAST.

The program is capable of common statistical analyses including regression, F,t, and Chi-squared tests, non-parametric bivariate statistics, one and two-way ANOVA, diversity indices, time-series analysis, geometrical analysis, and cladistics. The program also has great capabilities for multivariate analyses, including principal components (with minimal spanning tree, bootstrapping etc.), principal coordinates, non-metric multidimensional scaling, cluster analysis, and k-means clustering.
